Measles in WA: New cases bring State total to 38, latest two not linked to Christmas Creek Mine
Several new measles opposing exposure sites Perth And Pilbara After two new cases were notified to health authorities at the weekend.
Pharmacies, supermarkets and a Newman Sports Hall, a overseas traveler returning from Bali and another locally purchased case in the Perth Metro region is the last gym listed by the Ministry of Health following the approval of measles.
Wa Health said that both cases are not about each other or the latest epidemic, which is connected to the Christmas Creek mine, about 145 km north of Newman.
Fly-in, Fly-Out employees were invited to check the measles vaccination records after three cases were connected to the Pilbara mine area operated by Fortescie last week.
A fourth case was confirmed in another FIFO worker, but it was not counted in WA’s case burden because the worker was a new South Wales resident.
The Christmas Creek mine continues to be an active exposure area and between 8-11 September, workers want to watch symptoms up to 18 days from possible exposure.
Measles are a very infectious virus that can cause serious illness and cause complications such as pneumonia and brain inflammation.
Early symptoms contain fever, fatigue, nose, red eyes and cough. It usually follows a red, non -dog rash, which usually begins on the face and spreads to the rest of the body.
WA, 38 measles cases this year, the highest -country burden and more than six times the total cases in WA in 2024 recorded.
At the beginning of this weekend school holidays, health officials remind families traveling abroad to check their family vaccine records.
Two measles Jab and people born before 1966 are considered immune to measles.
