NBC “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie wants to return to work and the network wants her back, but it’s still a question of “when and how,” a source told Fox News Digital.

Guthrie has been off the air since early February after his mother, Nancy Guthrie, disappeared from her home in Tuscon, Arizona, in a tragic case that captivated the nation but prompted few answers.

“He wants to come back and everyone wants him to come back,” an NBC insider told Fox News Digital. “It’s just a question of when and how; whether, given what he’s been through, he can feel like he can put on a show that requires joy.”

“He is a wonderful, loyal person who has the support of everyone and I have every confidence that he will find his way back,” they added.

Guthrie is on good terms with his colleagues, and had an emotional reunion when he visited them at 30 Rock earlier this month. The show shares constant updates and on-air prayers for the condition of Guthrie, who has co-hosted the “Today” show since 2012, and her mother.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Guthrie told colleagues during his visit, “I have every intention of returning. I don’t know how to return, but I don’t know how not to return. You are my family, and I would like to try, too.” he said.

There was industry speculation that Guthrie might return to “Today” next month.

“Today” will air a reminder of the interview in two parts on Thursday and Friday.
