Media ignores billion-dollar Minnesota Somali fraud to cover Trump remarks

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The massive billion-dollar scam allegedly committed by Somalis in Minnesota is still being suppressed by broadcast networks for the sake of performative outrage over President Donald Trump’s derogatory remarks about Somalis and Somalis at public events.

Earlier in the week, NewsBusters’ Curtis Houck found ABC and NBC only mentioned the Minnesota scam in 21% of their Somalia coverage. The vast majority of the remarks were negative assessments of Trump. Adding CBS, the fraud rate increased to 31%; That’s partly because “Face The Nation” host Margaret Brennan interviewed Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar about it.

First, Brennan pulled off the “no evidence” nonsense with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent about taxpayer money going to Somalia. Terrorist organization Al Shabaab: “You have no evidence that money is being used to fuel terrorism, as some conservative writers claim?” Bessent said the investigation was ongoing but tagged Omar: “Representative Omar tried to downplay it… she said… it was very difficult to know how this money should be used. She was shining a light on the American people.”

When Omar arrived on set, Brennan relayed Bessent’s comments to her: “He claimed that people affiliated with you or your campaign were involved in this vast, brazen scheme to rip off the welfare system of the state of Minnesota. Do you want to respond to that? Do you know what he’s talking about?” Omar lied and said, “I really don’t understand, and I don’t think the secretary understands what she’s talking about either.”

BROADCAST BIAS: NETWORKS GAVE TRUMP ‘CIRCULATOR’ BUT IT’S NOT THE $1B Somalia Scam That Rocked Minnesota

Brennan could easily find New York Post report This highlighted connections that include Salim Ahmed Said, co-owner of Safari Restaurant, where Omar held her 2018 congressional victory party. Said was convicted of stealing more than $12 million in Covid-19 funds in August. Omar appeared on video on Safari in 2020 to praise the (fraudulent) nutrition program.

Then consider that Guhaad Hashi Said worked on Omar’s 2018 and 2020 campaigns, overseeing Somali voter turnout. He also pleaded guilty in August to operating a fake food website called Advance Youth Athletic Development; Here he pocketed $3.2 million from the meal program, claiming to serve 5,000 meals a day.

Why can’t Brennan use Google and prepare? Can he complain about “no evidence” for Omar’s story because he refuses to look for any evidence?

MINNESOTA’S FRAUD SCANDAL WAS ‘SHOCKINGLY EASY’ TO START, PROBABLY WORSE THAN REPORTED: FORMER PROSECUTOR

Somalia news exploded again when Trump held a rally in Pennsylvania where he mocked what he called “pit countries.” On the ABC, Mary Bruce claimed that “for more than 90 minutes last night his remarks repeatedly veered off topic and escalated into violent attacks.” Then he repeated: “Trump launched vicious attacks against Somali immigrants, calling them lazy and trash, and continued to go after naturalized U.S. Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota in her “anti-immigrant tirade.”

On ABC’s “The View,” Joy Behar addressed Trump’s joke that we should bring in some people from Norway instead of Somalia: “Can we talk about blatant racism for a minute? What’s the difference between Somalia and Norway? Hi. I mean, it’s so obvious that’s what it is, and he’s not even trying to cover it up.”

Like most leftists, he could only think about race, not how Norway and Somalia compared as countries on a measure of success. Liberals argue that you are not allowed to attack a country, but when you question the mass entry of immigrants they say they should stay because they come from such a bad place.

“CBS Evening News” reporter Nancy Cordes quoted his remarks and lined up Virginia Democratic Sen. Mark Warner to call Trump a “racist.” GOP Speaker Mike Johnson has said he won’t use those terms, but Trump has been expressing frustration with immigrants’ refusal to assimilate.

The online headline on “PBS News Hour” read: “Trump’s affordable speech turns into anti-immigrant rant.” Co-host Amna Nawaz aired a clip of Trump and then pressed Republican Tiffany Smiley: “Tiffany also called other countries, including Afghanistan and Somalia, hellholes. This was billed as a speech about affordability. Is that what voters want to hear right now?” In this case, it was unusual for PBS to allow a Republican to celebrate how Trump had secured the border as he promised. Nawaz then took on Democrat Ameshia Cross to accuse Trump of being discriminatory.

“Objective” reporters use words like “rant” and “tirade” to describe Trump’s speeches. But when former President Joe Biden traveled to Philadelphia in 2022 and launched a rant against equality and democracy being threatened by “MAGA extremists,” they celebrated his ambition. Screaming against Trump sounds like idealism to them.

By contrast, when Trump strikes idealistic notes about America, they refuse to depart from their ongoing caricature that anything he says can be painted as the immature outbursts of a racist bully on steroids.
