Medical aspirant ends life, allegedly distressed over NEET re-exam result

A fresh case of National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET)-related death has emerged in Maharashtra, with a 19-year-old medical aspirant allegedly ending his life due to disappointment over his NEET re-exam results.

He was found dead in his house in Jalalpur village in Karjat taluka of Ahilyanagar district. According to Karjat police, he left behind a note stating that he was distressed and disappointed for not qualifying for the cut in the NEET-UG exam.

“According to preliminary investigation, Sharvari (name changed to protect her identity) was under stress due to her performance in the NEET exam. The note stated that she had scored less marks and was disappointed due to this. An accidental death report (ADR) was registered,” Karjat Sub District Police Officer (SDPO) Sujeetkumar Kshirsagar said. Hindu.

The incident occurred around 16:00 on July 25. He comes from a farming family and is survived by his parents and brother.

The National Testing Agency’s (NTA) NEET re-examination was held on June 21 after the NEET UG 2026 exam, held on May 3 and in which at least 2.27 million candidates appeared, was canceled on May 12 due to question paper leak. The re-exam results were announced on July 16.

Speaking to media persons, his uncle said, “He was confident about the May 3 NEET exam because his papers went well. However, in the NEET re-examination, he scored 166 marks and fell 10 marks short of the category limit of 177. He looked nervous later.”
