Medical colleges asked not to grant leave to students during NEET-UG re-exam period

In order to promote the fair conduct of the NEET-UG re-exam to be held on Sunday, June 21, 2026, the National Medical Commission has directed all medical colleges and institutions under its jurisdiction not to allow students on June 20 and 21, barring exceptional circumstances.

In a statement published on Thursday (June 18), the commission said the move comes against the backdrop of a number of instances where medical students were found to be engaging in activities that could compromise the sanctity and integrity of the examination process.

It was stated that the instruction was issued in accordance with the instructions received from the Ministry of National Education, Department of Higher Education, regarding the conduct of the medical entrance examination.

The commission also asked medical colleges to keep students alert and sensitize them about participating in any activity that could compromise the sanctity and integrity of the examination process.

“Instances have been noted in the past where some medical students were found to have engaged in activities that could compromise the sanctity and integrity of the examination process,” the statement said.

“In light of this and for the purpose of general deterrence, all medical colleges are directed to be vigilant and ensure that students are aware of any activity that may be detrimental to the conduct of the examination.” he added.

The NMC has advised colleges not to deny students leave on June 20 and 21, except in “exceptional circumstances” and necessary justification.

“This measure is intended to be a preventative step to deter potential abuses and promote the fair conduct of the exam,” the statement said. The notification was sent to the deans and directors of all medical faculties and institutions within the commission’s field of duty.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) had canceled the NEET (UG) 2026 exam held on May 3 following allegations of paper leak and the government had asked the CBI to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the irregularities.

NEET (UG) re-exam is scheduled to be held on June 21.
