How a Small Argentina Town Handled Hantavirus Outbreak in 2018

As health authorities struggle to contain the deadly hantavirus linked to the MV Hondius cruise ship, they are relying on limited information about how the virus spreads, infectious disease experts say. But this is not the first outbreak of the virus’s kind in the Andes. The New England Journal of Medicine examined a 2018 outbreak in a small Andean town in southwestern Argentina and found infectious disease expert Dr. Abraar Karan says this has similarities to the spread of COVID-19 in large gatherings.
