Meghan Markle and Prince Harry attempted to mend their relationship with the royal family as the Sussexes reunited with King Charles for a private meeting earlier this month. But just weeks after their royal reunion, their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey has resurfaced. The 72-year-old billionaire entrepreneur and presenter reflects on the biggest moments of his career in a new interview: Vanity Fair.
The former daytime host touched on some of her biggest moments on TV, including her famous 2004 Oprah Winfrey Show segment where she gave away 276 cars worth more than $7 million. Another career highlight was her sit-down interview with Meghan and Harry.
In 2021, Meghan and Harry sat down with the American presenter to tell all on TV for the first time since stepping down from royal duties and moving to the US. Meghan opened up about her time in the Royal Family, which prompted Oprah to confirm whether she was silent or silenced, to which the duchess was quick to respond with “the latter.”
Five years after the interview gained worldwide attention and sparked outrage among staunch royalists, Oprah brought the moment to life on screen.
The former TV presenter cheekily took aim at herself as she playfully emphasized the word “silenced” while imitating the zipper lip move in the clip.
“I don’t know where that came from,” the homeowner admitted.
Oprah later asked the As Ever founder why she asked, “Were you silent, or were you silenced?” He explained that he asked.

“I wanted to be clear, because was she silenced? Were people telling her not to talk? That’s why I said it,” Oprah agreed.
“I said it to explain because I didn’t want to hear it later, ‘no, it wasn’t that, I was really silenced. They didn’t let me speak. So it was all for explanation,'” the philanthropist added.
Oprah also confirmed that the tell-all interview was delayed three times and lasted more than three and a half hours.
The resurfaced 2021 interview could see old wounds resurface as Harry tries to come to terms with the royal family.
Social media users have since reacted to the clip, with one writing: “Why are we bringing this up again? I mean… really interesting timing!”
Another echoed: “This interview didn’t go very well.”
Third, responding to allegations of racism and mistreatment made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex during their interview with Oprah, the late Queen Elizabeth II. He echoed Elizabeth’s famous quote: “Remembrances may vary.”
Another moment that played on the American presenter was when Harry explained why he went public.
He said: “I’ve got to do this for my family. It’s no surprise to anyone. It’s really sad that it’s come to this. But I’ve got to do something for my own sanity, for my wife’s sanity and for Archie’s too, because I could see where this was going.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex left the United Kingdom in 2020 and moved to Montecito, California.
