Meghan Markle mocked after latest Hollywood ‘headline grab’ | Royal | News

Meghan Markle has been criticized by a PR expert for her decision to return to acting by playing herself. The Duchess of Sussex hit the headlines on Wednesday evening when it was revealed she had finally made a comeback to acting after being spotted filming a new movie in Los Angeles, hours before Prince William’s big speech at the Earthshot Awards in Brazil.
Prince Harry’s wife was spotted filming Close Personal Friends at Amazon MGM Studios in Pasadena for the first time in eight years. The film features a star-studded cast including Lily Collins, Brie Larson, Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid’s son Jack Quaid, and Brit Henry Golding.
According to sources, the Duchess will only have a small role in the film; It’s about two couples, one famous and one not, who meet in Santa Barbara and become fast friends.
Now a PR expert has criticized the Duchess and her team for blowing the news out of proportion, especially on such an important day as William’s appearance in Brazil.
He also criticized him for choosing to play by himself and thus potentially missing out on a future career comeback.
Founder Renae Smith atticismHe told the Express: “I think it’s generous to call it a ‘return to acting’. Playing yourself isn’t exactly a return to career.”
“I wouldn’t call this acting any more than I would call another Oprah interview acting, it’s still Meghan being Meghan, but this time with better lighting and maybe a better story.
“From a public relations perspective, it feels more like a headline grabber than a professional reinvention.”
Ms Smith added: “It’s also confusing strategically. She’s spent the last few years trying to reposition herself as a businesswoman and philanthropist, then an influencer/lifestyle brand – but she’s definitely not an artist.”
“So this move muddies the story: Is he building a brand or is he chasing relevancy? My guess is he’s going after ‘anything that will get attention.'”
Meghan’s latest film in Hollywood is directed by Jason Orley, who co-wrote the script with Isaac Aptaker.
The Duchess of Sussex has been contacted for comment.
