Meghan Markle once again found herself at the center of a royal controversy as she attended the Sundance Film Festival with husband Prince Harry this week, this time for what some described as a “desperate” attempt to boost her popularity.

On Tuesday’s episode of Kevin O’Sullivan’s TalkTV programme, the host said he found the Sussexes’ heavily publicized attendance at the event in Utah “very strange”, as Harry had recently appeared in a UK court to air his complaints about the press’s intrusion into their lives.

But the royal couple appeared unfazed by the media attention as they smiled for the cameras while promoting their new movie about Girl Scouts, Cookie Queens. Speaking to O’Sullivan, royal commentator Angela Levin claimed the Duchess of Sussex relied on Prince Harry to draw attention to her latest project after her popularity waned.

Levin said: “He’s becoming less and less popular. So now he wants Harry around. He does what his wife wants him to do. He wants the public to buy things, look at things or help people decide on things. He’s happy and she’s very keen to make him happy.”

The royal writer also claimed that Meghan noticed she was being pushed aside by organisers, while Harry was getting most of the attention.

“The woman who organized the Sundance event did not let Meghan hold her hand, she put her arm around Harry’s shoulder,” Levin said. “Meghan gets Harry because it gets her more people.”

The royal commentator argued that Meghan’s confidence in Harry highlighted her growing insecurity and desire to maintain the relationship even if it meant using her husband to do so.

“It’s unpopular, we’ve seen that,” Levin added. “So now she wants Harry around so she can do things that will lead to more people and therefore more money.”

The Sussexes held the world premiere of their documentary Cookie Queens, which they executive produced through their company Archewell Productions, on Saturday evening at the Rose Wagner Center for the Performing Arts in Salt Lake City.

The next morning, Harry and Meghan attended the festival for a second time, this time at the Eccles Theater in Park City, for a screening of the documentary.

Harry and Meghan posed in their simple winter outfits with the Cookie Queens cast and crew, Sundance festival director Eugene Hernandez, and Amy Redford, daughter of festival founder Robert Redford.

Meghan told the Sundance audience on Sunday morning: “Thank you so much for getting here early and alive. I know some of you probably had a late night last night, so thanks extra for your efforts.” “My husband and I and our Archewell Productions are so proud and privileged to be able to support and elevate ‘Cookie Queens.'”
