Meghan Markle’s incredible gift from Queen Elizabeth to ‘welcome her to Royal Family’ | Royal | News

Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, received a gift from the late Queen Elizabeth II as a wedding gift to mark her official acceptance into the Royal Family. A pair of pearl and diamond drop earrings was gifted by Elizabeth; this was a continuation of a tradition that was also applied to other royal brides, including Catherine, now Princess of Wales. The dainty earrings were first worn by Meghan shortly after her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018, and she continued to wear them to various official engagements during her early years as a royal.

Before the couple got engaged in Cheshire in June 2018, the late Queen is said to have given her grandson’s new wife a pair of pearl drop earrings, which Meghan is wearing in photos. The Monarch embarked on a similar engagement with then-Kate Middleton in Leicester in 2012. The earrings feature simple pearls suspended from a small diamond embellishment, similar to the late Queen’s own style.

Pearls are often worn by members of the Royal Family for official occasions and important ceremonies.

Following that engagement, Meghan wore the earrings multiple times, including to Fiji in 2018 and to the WellChild Awards later that year.

Catherine’s engagement ring is a 12-carat oval Ceylon blue sapphire surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds set in 18-carat white gold. Previously worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, this iconic Garrard piece was given to her by Prince William in 2010 and is worth around £1 million.

Meghan Markle’s engagement ring, designed by Prince Harry in 2017, is a three-stone trilogy ring with a cut-cut diamond from Botswana in the center and two smaller side stones from Diana’s personal collection.

Originally powered by a yellow gold band, this model was later updated with a delicate micro pavé diamond band. It is estimated to cost up to £300,000.
