A public apology has been issued to Meghan Markle’s mother Doria Ragland after a complaint was made by Ragland to GB News about a comment made by news commentator Carole Malone.
Ms Malone has apologized following her false claim that Meghan Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, was serving time in prison during a broadcast on the network. Malone said: “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Ragland and her family for the pain my comments may have caused.”

Malone told GB News viewers: “In an episode of British Newsroom on Thursday, December 4, 2025, I stated that the Duchess of Sussex’s father, Thomas Markle, was raising Meghan while her mother, Doria Ragland, was in prison. “I believed this to be the case based on what I now understand to be misinformation I saw online.
“I was questioned on broadcast as to the validity of this claim and repeated this belief, which I now understand to be false. This was a genuine mistake. “I now accept on behalf of Ms. Ragland what I was told, that she raised her daughter and that she has never been to jail or prison.
“I sincerely apologize to Ms. Ragland and her family for any pain my comments may have caused, and I am happy to make amends.”

Doria is the mother of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and the ex-wife of retired American television lighting director and cinematographer Thomas Markle.
She has a degree in social work and is a former makeup artist and yoga instructor.
