Mehli Mistry exits Tata Trusts, cites Ratan Tata’s quote in heartfelt letter to all trustees: ‘Nobody is bigger than…’
Putting an end to speculations regarding Mehli Mistry’s trusteeship at Tata Trusts, the former trustee has officially parted ways with the Tata group, ANI has learned from sources close to Mistry.
In a letter addressed to the entire Board of Trustees of the Tata Trusts, including Chairman Noel Tata, Mistry stated that his commitment to Ratan N Tata’s vision includes the responsibility to ensure that the Tata Trusts are not dragged into controversies and that precipitating issues do irreparable damage to the reputation of the Tata Trusts.
“Therefore, in the spirit of Mr. Ratan N Tata, who has always put the public interest ahead of his own, I hope that the further actions of the other trustees will be guided by the principles of transparency, good governance and public interest. I part ways with what Mr. Ratan N. Tata said to me, ‘No one is greater than the institution he serves’.”
Mehli Mistry’s role in Tata Trusts
On October 27 this year, Mehli Mistry’s role as trustee at Tata Trusts came to an end. As per the decision taken by the Board of Trustees of Tata Trusts on October 17 last year, Mistry would be re-appointed as a Trustee for life.
However, his reappointment was not approved as the three trustees did not approve his reappointment to two major trusts, Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Sir Ratan Tata Trust.
Mistry had also filed a pre-emptive notice with the Charity Commissioner of Maharashtra, requesting that he be given a hearing before any changes are made in the list of trustees.
Mistry has now quit as the Tata Trusts official, putting an end to all speculations.
