Melbourne mum riding e-scooter struck in hit-and-run

A mother-of-five is in a coma after being shot in a hit-and-run in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

The crash occurred shortly after midnight on Mother’s Day morning and left a 41-year-old woman in a coma.

The woman was riding an e-scooter when a small sedan hit her.

Police have released CCTV footage of the car they were looking for after the incident in the Melbourne suburb of Melton.

The woman’s partner spoke to reporters outside the hospital and demanded the driver surrender. On Monday morning police confirmed no arrests had been made.

The woman who suffered critical head and spinal cord injuries at the Royal Melbourne Hospital has been identified as 41-year-old Tania Kerr.

“I’m so angry, I’m so hurt, I really don’t have words to say,” the woman’s partner, Kayla Grech, told the media.

“Especially leaving someone like that on the side of the road.

“He is a wonderful person, loving, caring.

“The best person you could ask for.”

Victoria Police Sergeant Emile Caggiati, who also asked for the driver to surrender, described the driver’s behavior as “deplorable” and warned e-scooter riders to wear helmets and have high visibility and lights on at night.

“This behavior by any driver leaving the scene of a collision where someone needs assistance is truly appalling,” Sergeant Caggiati said.

“When you realize you’ve done something wrong, contact the police and we’ll work on it,” Sergeant Caggiati said at a press conference on Sunday.

The accident occurred at around 12.20 on the morning of Mother’s Day. Ms Kerr was riding an e-scooter on Scott St when she was hit by a car turning onto Swan St.

The driver of the small white sedan did not stop.

Footage taken from the scene shows police marking and photographing clothes and shoes left on the street.
