Men arrested for allegedly stealing 1000 litres of fuel

A couple of alleged thieves were arrested after a tank filled with approximately $3,500 in fuel was stolen.
Two men allegedly entered a construction site in Tralee, near the ACT-NSW border, on Saturday afternoon and took a water tank containing 1000 liters of fuel.
Police spent almost a week investigating the theft until they found the water tank full of diesel at a house in Mount Fairy, about 45km away.
A ute was also seized and a 37-year-old man was arrested after he was found hiding at the site on Thursday afternoon.
He was charged with burglary and entering an enclosed grounds without lawful excuse.
Earlier the same day, officers arrested a 27-year-old after searching a house in Queanbeyan, where they seized a small quantity of methylamphetamine.
He faces charges of burglary, damaging or destroying property, entering a confined space without lawful excuse, breaching bail and some drug charges.
The 27-year-old man was released on bail and will appear in court on Monday.
The price of diesel in the surrounding area currently ranges from $2.78 to $2.95 per liter.
Fuel prices have increased rapidly in recent months due to the Iran-Israel-US conflict and subsequent policies on the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route for oil and fuel.
At its peak, the price of diesel rose to over $3 per liter.
Although the federal government has taken some measures to reduce the cost of fuel, such as a fuel tax cut, inflation and cost pressures continue to put pressure on Australian consumers.
While the increase in fuel prices forced municipalities to increase garbage collection rates, airlines also increased ticket prices.
Fuel prices may also deteriorate after a fire at one of Australia’s two remaining refineries damaged nearly half of its oil production on Wednesday.
The Viva Energy Geelong refinery supplies 10 per cent of the national fuel and half of Victoria’s stock.
