Meso Bites was born from owner Haider Karim Al-Baghdadi’s desire to introduce Iraqi food to the CBD, which lacks specialty restaurants. His inspiration? The history of his country, Mesopotamia, one of the world’s oldest recorded civilizations, and family recipes passed down from generation to generation.
Among the bestsellers is one of the simplest dishes: skewers of beef, chicken, lamb or meatballs marinated in a secret spice blend, served with hummus and tabbouleh. But carbohydrates also play a starring role and often appear more than once in a single dish. Plump bulgur meatballs stuffed with beef and lamb are cooked with chickpeas and onions in a rich beef stew known as yakhni, according to the owner’s mother’s recipe. Sham quzi is another staple made from thin layers of pastry filled with aromatic spiced rice.
You should order food: Yakhni – handmade beef and lamb meatballs served in a bowl filled with broth and chickpeas.
