Met Office issues 10-day snow forecast naming where in England will be buried | Weather | News
The Met Office has identified areas of the UK predicted to face blizzards as Arctic conditions could cause a brutal return. Although the weather has been relatively mild lately, forecasters are warning that colder weather will return at the end of the month and the beginning of February.
Earlier this month, large parts of the UK were placed on Met Office weather warnings after heavy snowfall and icy conditions caused widespread disruption. Millions of people were affected and hundreds of schools had to close for several days. And now, in the 10-day forecast from Saturday, January 24 to Monday, February 2, the weather agency warns that there is an increased chance of colder weather next week.
Rainy and windy weather is expected to prevail for the next few days before cold weather arrives.
A Met Office spokesman said: “The UK will likely remain in the battlefield between Atlantic weather systems trying to advance from the west, but will tend to linger around the UK as they encounter high pressure to the north and north-east.”
This means “further rain or showers, which may be heavy and persistent at times, are likely, particularly in the south and west, with the driest intermediate rainfall in the far north and northwest.”
Various weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office, including a yellow wind warning for south-west England on Tuesday and a heavy rain warning for eastern Scotland from Wednesday to Friday.
During this period, the weather is likely to cool and the “risk of snow” to increase.
A spokesman added: “Although mild conditions may linger at times in the south and west, it is likely to become slightly colder throughout this period, bringing some risk of snow, particularly on the hills in Scotland and northern England.”
