Met Office issues 19-hour warning as Brits living in 21 areas face ‘blackouts’ | Weather | News

The Met Office has issued new weather warnings and power outage warnings for Britons in 21 regions. The latest yellow rain warnings for London and counties in the South East, South West England, West Midlands and Wales will start at 5am on Thursday and end at 11.59pm the same day.
The Met Office weather warning says: “Rain from the south overnight from Wednesday to Thursday may become heavy and persistent in places throughout Thursday morning. Then, after a brief respite for most, although there will be heavy showers around, another organized and at times heavy rain is likely to arrive from the south, affecting the same area. By the end of Thursday, 10-20mm of rain will have fallen over a fairly wide area, with a few spots exceeding 30mm. In widely saturated ground conditions, particularly “In difficult driving conditions resulting from spray, running water or flooded roads, some low-impact surface water flooding is likely.”
Residents in affected areas have been warned that some homes and businesses may be flooded as there will be a “short-term outage” in electricity supplies and other services.
Water splashing on the roads and flooding will extend travel times, and bus and train services will also be affected.
Residents under the warning are asked to check whether their property is at risk of flooding and, if so, to consider preparing a flood plan and emergency flood kit.
Anyone planning to travel during the weather warning period is advised to check road conditions or bus and train schedules and change travel plans if necessary.
Residents are asked to pack flashlights, batteries, cell phone power supply and other essential items to be prepared for possible power outages.
