Rajesh Agrawal takes charge as Commerce Secretary

Senior IAS Officer Rajesh Agrawal served as secretary of the Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

Sunil Barthwal, who retired on September 30th, succeeded.

Mr. Agrawal is a successful manager in various sectors, including skills, power, fertilizer, agriculture and MSMES, with thirty years of experience in governance, policy creation and implementation.

Prior to his current position, he supervised India’s trade negotiations with various countries within the scope of free trade agreements.

The India-USA Bilateral Trade Agreement, Indian-Pacific Economic Forum, India-Avustralya CECA and ASEAN FTA were the chief negotiator for reviewing.

He was also responsible for export promotion for agricultural and allied sectors.
