Met Office issues update on rare extreme heat warning for 31 areas – full list | Weather | News

The Met Office has extended its weather warning for extreme heat in an update published on Saturday morning. The national forecaster has mandated a yellow warning covering many areas in the Midlands, London and southern England as the UK remains in the grip of a heatwave.

The warning, updated on Sunday, will come into force as of 12:00 on Saturday and will remain active until 09:00 on Sunday. Hot and humid weather will continue across eastern and south-eastern parts of England over the weekend, according to the forecast. The rare heat stimulus is likely to cause adverse health effects, including sunburn or heat exhaustion (dehydration, nausea, fatigue) and other heat-related illnesses in the broader population.

The forecaster said: “Very hot and humid weather will continue to affect the east and south-east of England, but will likely be a few degrees cooler than the previous few days. “Temperatures will still exceed 30 degrees Celsius, peaking at around 32 to 33 degrees Celsius in London or East Anglia.

“Temperatures overnight from Saturday to Sunday are unlikely to fall below high degrees Celsius in most places, with a few places not falling below 20 degrees Celsius.

“This will again be accompanied by high humidity at first, but steadily cooler conditions will develop from the west later in the night. Another hot day is expected in the far east of the region on Sunday, but both temperatures and humidity are lower than in recent days and the likelihood of further impacts is much lower.”

The Met Office also warned that there was an increased chance of some heat-sensitive systems and equipment failing, which could lead to power outages and loss of other services for some homes and businesses.
