Met Office issues weather warning with 80mm of heavy rain and flooding set to hit parts of UK

Yellow weather warnings for rain have been issued in parts of England at the start of next week.
The Met Office said heavy rain could cause some disruption and possible flooding in the South West and Wales from midnight on Monday until 3pm in the South West and Wales, and in the South East from 8am on Monday until 6am on Tuesday.
Up to 80mm of rain is expected in parts of south Wales and south-west England on Monday; Up to 50 to 60 mm of rain is expected over the Northern and Southern Downs of England.
According to the statement made by Meteorology, the rains, especially in coastal areas, will be accompanied by strong winds that may reach a storm. Heavy rain will continue until Tuesday morning.
They will follow a yellow weather warning for rain from 6am until midnight on Saturday, spreading across the East Midlands, eastern England, London, southern England, south-west England, Yorkshire and Wales.
Chief meteorologist Jason Kelly said: “While the exact course of the low remains uncertain at this time, there is a clear signal for periods of strong winds and heavy rain, which could cause surface water flooding and delays to road and rail travel.
“Rain will also impact North East England on Saturday, some of which may fall as snow on higher ground as the system encounters colder air from the north.
“Sunday will be drier and brighter, albeit colder, for many areas where strong winds will blow near the North Sea coast. Widespread frost is expected overnight into Monday before the next weather system approaches.”
Forecasters say most places in Wales and England could see 20 to 30mm of rain, with some places seeing up to 50mm of rain. However, on high ground there is a possibility of a fall of 60 to 80 mm.
This heavy rainfall may be accompanied by strong winds on Saturday night, especially in the eastern parts of England.
The Met Office has warned that journey times may be longer and there may be delays on public transport due to water splashing and flooding on the roads. He added that there was a possibility of minor flooding and power outages.
It is estimated that the weather will remain unstable next week, with rainy and windy conditions occasionally turning drier and milder.
