The recent warm weather will give way to cooler temperatures and even light rain, with the Met Office forecasting rainfall on Monday. Many parts of the UK will experience light rainfall, according to Met Office weather maps.

Northern Ireland and Scotland look set to be hardest hit, particularly in the early hours of July 20, between midnight and 7am. While Wales and much of the South West are set to remain dry, the far east coast of England may also be hit by some rain, although intensity is forecast to be below 0.5mm per hour.

By 10am tomorrow, maps show rain could move towards East Anglia, hitting Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.

Maps show cooler temperatures are expected in the UK, with the mercury unlikely to rise above 25 degrees, although there is a slim chance of showers anywhere in the country.

Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan said today: “The weather in Northern Scotland will become increasingly wetter as we move into next night.

“It is also possible that some parts of Northern Ireland will receive some scattered rain, but it will remain dry for most, there will be a long clear period, perhaps some isolated patches of mist and mist in the countryside, and a much cooler night will follow tonight, so it will be a much more comfortable night’s sleep.”

Central and south-east England have seen the longest period of continuous rainfall this century, forecasters said.

The Met Office’s weather stations recorded zero rainfall in both regions for 14 consecutive days from July 2 to July 15, according to the organisation.

Parts of the UK have experienced three heatwaves so far this year, while the European continent continues to experience heatwaves.
