Met officer sacked for gross misconduct after BBC Panorama Charing Cross investigation

A Metropolitan Police officer has been dismissed for gross misconduct relating to his time working at Charing Cross police station in London.

PC Philip Neilson is the first of 10 officers to stand trial as part of the Met’s expedited misconduct investigations into footage recorded during an undercover BBC Panorama investigation.

He was recorded by the BBC using derogatory and violent language towards suspects from ethnic and religious minorities while serving as a police officer with the Mid-West Command Unit.

At the hearing, it was revealed that the person used “extremely racist and discriminatory statements” about different ethnic groups.
