Meta On Tuesday, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a new set of $299 smart glasses, at least $80 off the price tag of the company’s entry-level second-generation Meta Ray-Ban glasses, as it continues its push into wearable technologies.
Meta Glasses come with new designs and are produced in partnership with Ray-Ban’s parent company. EssilorLuxotticabut they do not come with Ray-Ban or Oakley branding.
As eyewear competition heats up and consumers find more value in augmented reality devices, Meta is aggressively marketing its smart glasses to consumers. Although the smart glasses market is still small, Meta and EssilorLuxottica dominate the market with estimated market share. more than 80% and millions of units have been sold since their initial launch in 2021.
The Meta Glasses don’t have a screen but do include a camera and personal speakers. Users can talk to Meta’s AI or take photos and videos of their surroundings to translate or understand what they see around them.
