At least 11 suspected criminals were killed in northern Mexico during a “security operation” targeting a residence affiliated with the Los Mayos faction of the country’s powerful Sinaloa cartel, the country’s navy said on Thursday. Last month, another Mexican military operation killed Nemesio Oseguera, also known as El Mencho, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, during an operation in the state of Jalisco.

The Navy said its personnel were attacked after arriving at the site in Sinaloa state, after which they “repelled the attack in accordance with the legal framework.” Authorities could not identify anyone who died during the operation.

The Navy also located the daughter of a crime boss during the operation, but the girl was released to her family after it was determined that she had no connection to criminal activities. It was also stated that high-powered and tactical weapons were seized at the scene.
