Adrián Hernández, Civil Protection Coordinator for the State of Mexico, confirmed that there were a total of eight passengers and two crew members on board the private plane. “Seven bodies have been found so far and the search for the remaining people is ongoing,” Adrián Hernández said in a statement on Monday evening.

Landing on the Football Field Was a Disaster

Initial reports suggested that the pilot was attempting to make an emergency landing at the time of the accident. Coordinator Hernández stated that the plane appeared to be heading towards a football field but unfortunately crashed into the metal ceiling of a nearby office instead.

This caused a huge fire to break out in the area.

“The incident is being investigated,” said Hernández. The reason for the unplanned landing of the plane and the subsequent crash is currently being investigated.

Area Evacuated Due to Fire Risk

The huge fire that broke out due to the plane crash led to urgent security measures being taken in the industrial zone. San Mateo Atenco mayor Ana Muñiz told Milenio Television that the local government had to evacuate about 130 people from the surrounding area due to fire and smoke.

There was immediate response from emergency services and teams responsible for dealing with such situations. It was reported that more information would be disclosed in the later stages of the investigation.
