Miami: Charter boat explodes near popular sandbar, 11 injured in Biscayne Bay incident

A charter boat was on Biscayne Bay near the Haulover Sandbar when an explosion ripped through the ship on Saturday, injuring passengers, according to preliminary information provided by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said in a statement that more than two dozen rescue units responded to the incident around 12:48 a.m. and “encountered multiple patients requiring medical attention.” The agency said it transported 11 people to local hospitals.
No information was given from any institution about the condition of the injured.
The State Protection Commission said the investigation was ongoing.
The U.S. Coast Guard was among emergency crews who responded.
