Miami Marlins post MLB-best 17-5 June record in Wild Card playoff push

MLB commissioner blames communications outage amid border backlash on Bible verse
‘America’s Newsroom’ discusses MLB’s response to players wearing Bible verses on their baseball caps. Commissioner Rob Manfred sent a letter to Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., explaining that the initial warning was a “routine verbal warning” due to a lack of communication with the Giants organization and that the players did not face any penalties. FOX Business’ Brian Brenberg and Fox News writer Tom Shillue praise the players for their courage in keeping their faith.

Throughout the entire month of June, one team has been on a torrid run throughout Major League Baseball, going nearly unbeatable at home and climbing up the playoff standings in the process.
When you hear this, you’re probably thinking I’m talking about one of the usual suspects.
New York Yankees? How about the Los Angeles Dodgers? Or maybe the Atlanta Braves are going on one of their patented runs?
No, no and no.
FREDDIE FREEMAN ADMITS DODGERS ARE ‘PASSING THROUGH IT’ AFTER $73 MILLION MARLINS TAKE $500 MILLION SERIES FROM LA

The team I’m talking about is the team that had an MLB-best 17-5 record in June and will play against fellow Wild Card hopefuls St. Louis on Friday night. It’s none other than the Miami Marlins, who got shutout on the road against the St. Louis Cardinals.
It’s hard to say why the Marlins had the kind of success they did in June.
The talent was always there, no matter how young. even me wrote about I talked about how much potential Fightin’ Fish had back in April.
MARLINS ACHIEVE DEVELOPMENT GAIN AS THE TEAM’S TEAL JERSEY MAKE THEIR SEASON DELEGATION
But I’m not sure even the most optimistic Marlins fan could have seen this coming.

The big key to their success was their offense, but not in the traditional sense.
The Chicks prefer the long ball, of course, but Miami has been taking more of a small-ball approach to scoring runs, and it’s been working like a charm lately.
MLB’S OFFENSE HAS INCREASED DRAMATICALLY IN RECENT WEEKS, RAISING QUESTIONS ABOUT A ‘WATERED’ BALL
The Marlins rank in the top ten in the league in on-base percentage and are MLB’s top team in stolen bases with 88.
This strategy might not be sexy, but it’s a big reason why the Marlins are so close to making the playoffs as we approach the All-Star break.
Heading into this year, baseball fans were likely aware of the top two arms in the Marlins rotation, as Sandy Alcántara and Eury Pérez both have reputations that precede them.
But it was the emergence of Max Meyer that helped Miami get a much-needed boost in its shooting.
Meyer is 9-0 this season and has a 1.78 ERA with 33 strikeouts in five starts in June alone.
I know I bemoaned the woes at the beginning of this season, but this team is finally starting to get into shape and has helped Miami hold on to some of their late leads.
MIAMI MARLINS MAY ACTUALLY BE CURSED

Throw all of this into the mix and you have the chance to have a successful summer of baseball that takes the MLB by storm.

As a cynical Marlins fan, I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Can Miami keep it up? Probably not, but it’s fun to watch you do it.

And as young as this team is, it’s great to see them arrive ahead of schedule, even if it’s temporary.
Let’s hope July is as kind to the Marlins as June was.
