Michael McKee charged in Ohio dentist double murder faces extradition

The ex-husband of an Ohio dentist’s wife killed in a double murder is expected to appear in an Illinois courtroom Monday afternoon as extradition proceedings are expected to begin.
Michael David McKee, 39, was arrested for allegedly killing a couple in Columbus, Ohio, according to police and court records. Police responded to a home in the Weinland Park neighborhood of Columbus around 10 a.m. on Dec. 30 and found 37-year-old Spencer Tepe. Monique HillAt age 39, both died from gunshot wounds. McKee is Monique’s ex-husband.
McKee was arrested just before noon Saturday at the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois, according to jail records. He is charged with two counts of murder in Ohio in connection with the deaths of Spencer and Monique.
Court records in Ohio show Monique filed for divorce in 2017 after marrying McKee on August 22, 2015. McKee has lived in several states since 2020, including Virginia, Nevada and Illinois, according to public records. McKee recently moved to Chicago, Illinois and practices as a vascular surgeon in the Rockford, Illinois area.

McKee is scheduled to appear in Winnebago County (Illinois) court at 1:30 p.m. Monday for an appearance that is expected to be related to his extradition to Ohio.
Charging documents show police were able to identify McKee by tying him to a car that arrived in Tepes’ neighborhood shortly before the murders and left immediately after the murders. The car was later located in Rockford, Illinois, and police found evidence that it belonged to McKee.

Before McKee’s arrest, Columbus police released surveillance video showing a “person of interest” walking in an alley near Tepes’ home in the early morning hours of Dec. 30.
A man dressed in a dark coat and light-colored trousers was seen walking slowly.
Spencer and Monique Tepe were found dead around 10 a.m. on December 30 after a friend went to the couple’s home and told the 911 operator she saw a body inside.

“There’s a body,” the caller says. “Our friend wasn’t answering his phone. We just did a medical check. We just got here and he looks dead. He’s lying next to his bed covered in blood. I can’t get closer to see anything more than that.”
