Michelle Pfeiffer felt ‘humiliated’ auditioning for her ‘Grease 2’ role

Michelle Pfeiffer explained how she landed her first major role in “Grease 2” and how it was an odd start to her legendary Hollywood career.

During a recent interview Entertainment WeeklyThe 68-year-old actor opened up about his breakthrough role and why he said he felt “humiliated” after his first audition for the part. He explained that going into the audition he had “zero expectations of getting into this part” but was sent by his managers “just for the experience”.

“It was a big call; there were actors and dancers and singers hanging out everywhere, going in and out of auditions, and there were very thin walls,” he said. “All the other actors waiting to get in could hear you reading, they could hear you singing. I wasn’t a singer. I was taking voice lessons to really hone my stage voice at the advice of my acting coach. And I was definitely not a dancer.”

After the singing portion of the audition was over, Pfeiffer had to enter the dancing portion, which she described as something “you see in the movies”; here people form rows behind each other and each row takes turns performing in the front row.

Pfeiffer was not confident in her dancing abilities and “kept moving to the back,” eventually finishing in last place, adding that she “stumbled my way around because I couldn’t remember the choreography.”

“I left my tail between my legs, I felt so humiliated,” Pfeiffer said. “And I guess she was someone’s assistant [director] Pat Birch’s assistant ran after me at the Paramount studio. I said I was really embarrassed and he said: ‘You shouldn’t be embarrassed because he wants you to come back tomorrow.'”

Ultimately, Pfeiffer was cast in the lead role of Stephanie Zinone, head of the Pink Ladies, in the 1982 film. Unlike the first film, in which a good girl falls in love with a bad boy, the sequel turns the concept on its head, with Pfeiffer portraying the bad girl who falls in love with a good boy.

While Pfeiffer may not have much confidence in her singing abilities, many fans of the film still look back fondly on her singing of the song “Cool Rider” in the film.

She later found great success in the film “Scarface” opposite Al Pacino, and later earned three consecutive Academy Award nominations for her roles in “Married to the Mob”, “Dangerous Liaisons” and “The Fabulous Baker Boys”.

The actress recently starred in both “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” and Taylor Sheridan’s “The Madison.”

And so we went back and forth like that for a while, and it became clear to me that I wasn’t going to win this fight,” Pfeiffer said. “And he beamed; he couldn’t say enough nice things,” Pfeiffer recalled. “He said the scripts were great, the production was perfect. He was having the time of his life; he loved Montana. So I took a leap of faith and committed. I thought, ‘The guy’s got a pretty good track record.'”
