The White House Correspondents’ Dinner, the annual black-tie gala that brings together politicians and journalists, was just about to begin when a series of gunshots rang out and the Secret Service was forced to take action.

After everyone was taken to safety, the president spoke at a White House news conference in the West Wing an hour after the violence.
‘It’s always shocking when something like this happens,’ he said. ‘I heard a noise and thought a tray had fallen on the floor.’
Trump added that Melania Trump immediately recognized the voice as a ‘bad voice’ and that it was a very traumatic experience for her.
‘Melania was very knowledgeable,’ he continued.
The president also shared his concern for his wife’s safety, given the multiple assassination attempts against her.
Federal prosecutors announced that Allen will be charged with two counts of using a firearm during a crime of violence and assaulting a federal officer using a dangerous weapon.
If convicted, Allen could face a 20-year prison sentence for the assault, while the weapons charges carry a minimum sentence of ten years in prison, while the shooting risks a life sentence.
