Milan tram derails and slams into a building, killing one person

MILAN, Italy (AP) — A tram derailed and crashed into a building in the heart of Milan on Friday, killing one person and injuring more than two dozen people, authorities and Italian media said.

The incident, which took place on central Vittorio Veneto street, occurred during the transition period between hosting the Winter Olympics and Paralympics, when the Italian commercial capital hosts seasonal fashion shows.

Tram number 9 passes through the heart of Italy’s financial capital. He was supposed to continue straight along Vittorio Veneto and was traveling at high speed. Milan public transport company ATM said one person was killed. In the statement made by LaPresse, it was stated that they were cooperating with prosecutors “to definitively determine the cause and dynamics of the incident.”
