Kerala local body polls: UDF won 38.81% and LDF 33.45% of votes, show vote share data released by State Election Commission

According to data released by the State Election Commission (SEC), the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) received 38.81% votes and the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) received 33.45% votes in the two-phase local elections to be held in 2025 in the state. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 14.71 per cent of the votes, while 13.03 per cent of the votes went to other parties and Independents.

Dominating the battles between panchayats, municipalities and Corporations, the UDF won 8,021 grama panchayat wards, 1,241 block panchayat wards, 196 district panchayat wards, 1,458 municipal wards and 187 Corporation wards. Having lost significant ground this time, LDF won 6,584 grama panchayat wards, 928 block panchayat wards, 148 district panchayat wards, 1,103 municipal wards and 126 Corporation wards. The NDA demanded 1,448 grama panchayat wards, 54 block panchayat wards, 1 district panchayat ward, 324 municipal wards and 93 Corporation wards.

Of the 2,86,05,525 voters on SEC records, 74.25% or 2,12,39,135 votes cast their votes on December 9 and 11. UDF got 82,37,385 votes. These include 39.17% votes in panchayats (65,96,415 votes), 38.85% votes in municipalities (10,84,901) and 34.59% votes in Corporations (5,56,069). LDF got 70,99,175 votes. The Front received 34.02% (57,29,020) votes in panchayats, 29.88% (8,34,427) in municipalities and 33.67% (5,35,728) in Corporations.

The BJP-led NDA, which made headlines by emerging as the largest front of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, got 31,21,335 votes across Kerala. In panchayats, NDA received 23,42,958 (13.92%) votes. The front received 4,02,233 (14.40%) votes in municipalities and 3,75,144 (23.58%) votes in six corporations.

While NDA emerged as the largest party in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, it actually received marginally fewer votes than LDF. NDA got 34.52% of 4,78,672 votes and LDF got 34.65%. UDF got 26.28% and Independents got 4.55%.

Other parties/Independents got 12.89% votes in panchayats, 16.86% votes in municipalities and 7.80% votes in Corporations.

Independents, including party-backed Independents, won in 1,067 gram panchayat wards, 32 block panchayat wards, no district panchayat wards, 291 municipal wards and 12 Corporation wards.
