Cars stuck at Addenbrooke’s Hospital after major fire

Matthew Webb/BBCCar owners are waiting to get their vehicles back after more than 30 firefighters battled a massive blaze in a hospital multi-storey car park.
The fire department said so Sent 12 teams to deal with a “major incident” At 16:16 GMT on Saturday at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.
A spokesman said multiple vehicles were affected on the first floor of the car park but no one was believed to have been injured. Police and ambulance teams were dispatched to the scene.
The fire service told the BBC that a structural engineer must check the building and make sure it is safe before firefighters can re-enter or members of the public can retrieve their vehicles.
BBC correspondent Matthew Webb said he could not see any flames at the scene at around 19:00 on Saturday, but could hear “lots of alarms going off”.
It is understood a multi-agency meeting was held on Sunday morning to decide next steps.

People with cars in the building were advised to make alternative travel arrangements and stated, “We will support you in doing this.”
A hospital spokesman said anyone arriving by car should allow extra time.
“Car Parking As we have 1 main car park, space throughout the site is extremely limited,” they said.
“We would ask all staff and visitors to avoid driving into the area if possible and use alternative transport options including Trumpington or Babraham Road Park and Ride.
“We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and thank you for your understanding.”
Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service
Nicola Haseler/BBCCrews from Suffolk, Essex and Hertfordshire were sent to help fight the fire.
A Cambridgeshire Fire Brigade spokesman said the fire was extinguished on Saturday evening and an investigation will be launched to determine the cause.
“We want to thank those affected for their patience,” they added.
Residents were asked to avoid the area on Saturday due to road closures affecting Robinson Way, Puddicombe Way, Adrian Way and Richard Howe Way.
