Minneapolis school shooting: What we know

After shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis, two children were killed and at least 17 people were injured.

The attack took place around 08:30 local time (13:30 BST) at the Announcement Church, where children participated in a worship service in the first week of school.

Here’s what the BBC knows about what is happening.

The armed man was described as 23 -year -old Robin Westman, three law enforcement sources from suburban Minneapolis told the BBC to the US partner CBS News.

His motive is not known right now.

It was described as all black dressed and carrying three weapons – a rifle, a shotgun and a pistol. A smoke bomb was found in what he believed to be in the church car park.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’hara said that there was no “a comprehensive penalty background” and acted alone.

O’hara said, “Our hearts are broken for families who lost their children, O’hara said,” Young lives struggling to heal and “the whole community that is very deep traumatized with this meaningless attack”.

Eight and 10 years old children were killed. Seventeen people were injured, 14 children.

The police died too, the police said.

CBS News says ten of the wounded are critical in the hospital.

Hennepin District Medical Center, Emergency Medical President Thomas Wyatt, was brought to the department of seven children aged six to 14 years and said he was in a critical condition that needs four surgeries.

Non -critical patients were taken to other hospitals.

“These were families of Minneapolis, May the Mayor Jacob Frey said during a briefing. “These were American families, and the amount of pain they have suffered right now is extraordinary.”

Frey, who made a pointed reference to the typical political reaction to mass shooting, said: “Don’t say that this is about ‘thoughts and prayers’ right now. These children were literally praying.”

According to the website, the announcement of the Catholic Church and the Faith -based school are for students up to 8th grade (14 years old).

The Catholic School’s approach to teaching is one of the belief -based learning in all classes.

He added that their religions “forced them to others in the region with other communities and sister schools in Haiti.
