‘US Has Become The Real United Nations’: Trump Says While Announcing Ceasefire Between Thailand, Cambodia | World News

US President Donald Trump claimed on Sunday that the war between Thailand and Cambodia had been temporarily halted after an agreement to return to the terms of an earlier treaty. He praised the leadership of both countries for reaching what he called a quick and fair solution and asserted that the United States played a key role in facilitating progress toward peace.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said: “I am pleased to announce that the war of origination between Thailand and Cambodia will cease for the moment and they will return to living in PEACE under the original Treaty we recently agreed to. I want to congratulate both great leaders for their intelligence in coming to this quick and very fair conclusion. It happened FAST and DECISIVE, as all these situations should be! The United States was proud to assist, as always.”

Trump also reiterated that he had helped stop eight conflicts in the past eleven months and claimed that the US had become the “true United Nations” while criticizing the UN’s limited role, including in the Russia-Ukraine war.

“With all the wars and conflicts I have solved and stopped over the last eleven months, EIGHT, perhaps the United States, have become the REAL United Nations with little or no assistance in any of them, including the current ongoing disaster between Russia and Ukraine. The United Nations must start being active and involved in WORLD PEACE! US President Donald Trump on Sunday,” he added.

Thailand and Cambodia signed a ceasefire agreement on Saturday, ending weeks of fighting over a long-running border dispute.

According to the agreement, both sides agreed to halt military operations, freeze troop movements and allow civilians living near the border to return home as soon as possible.

Clashes between the two neighboring countries began in July this year. Although a ceasefire was reached that month with the help of US President Donald Trump, fighting resumed earlier this month.

Reports based on official figures stated that the renewed violence led to the death of more than 40 people and that approximately one million residents were forced to leave their homes.

Both countries blamed each other for initiating violence and harming civilians. Cambodia accused Thailand of damaging temples near the disputed border, while Thailand claimed Cambodian forces moved its soldiers near ancient stone monuments.
