CBSE Clarifies on QR Code Linked to Rickroll Video

Hyderabad:After a QR code printed on certain Class 12 Mathematics question papers went viral on Monday to lead to a YouTube video, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday issued a statement confirming that the papers are genuine and the security of the exam remains intact.

Following the exam, students reported that scanning one of the QR codes revealed a video by British singer Rick Astley called Never Gonna Give You Up, a classic internet prank known as “Rickrolling”.

In its official statement, CBSE clarified that the question papers carry various security features, including QR codes, to verify authenticity in case of suspected breach. “In several question paper sets of the Mathematics exam held on March 9, it appears that scanning one of the QR codes provided leads to a YouTube video,” the board said. “The question papers are original. The security of the question papers is not compromised.”

While concerns regarding the accuracy of the documents were resolved, the Board noted that the issue was taken seriously and assured that necessary steps would be taken to prevent such problems in the future.
