Mitch McConnell reportedly found unconscious before Senate absence

Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., was reportedly found “unconscious” at his home in Washington, D.C., before being hospitalized last month, as his condition and schedule for returning to the Senate remain a mystery.
voice coming from someone emergency to dispatch On June 14, the same day McConnell was sent to the hospital, a phone call was revealed Wednesday by reporter Desirée Townsend and later revealed that the longtime Senate Republican was “unconscious” and the dispatcher requested an Advanced Life Support (ALS) response, PunchBowl News reported.
McConnell, 82, has not been in the Senate since and it is unclear when he will return. His office did not respond to a request for comment about his condition, why he was hospitalized and when he would return to the upper room.

On the day McConnell was hospitalized, his office said the lawmaker was “admitted to the hospital this morning” and “received excellent care.” His spokesman, David Popp, later said McConnell was “working closely with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters as he continues to recover.”
Senate Republican leadership also said they spoke with McConnell after the incident.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R.S.D.), who replaced McConnell after his historic run in the Senate GOP leadership, said he was “clearly interested in what’s going on.”
“It follows the things we did here this week,” Thune said. “Very so.”

McConnell, who will retire from the Senate at the end of this year, continues his second term at the hospital in 2026; In February, he was hospitalized for eight days with flu-like symptoms.

And he’s had medical events both publicly and privately over the past few years.
In 2023, he fell and broke his ribs and suffered a concussion. In July of the same year, he fell again and shortly after, he experienced two different events and froze in front of the cameras. It tripped at the Senate Republican luncheon in 2024, and last year it tripped and fell into the Senate basement.
