Mob attacks Assam forest range office over alleged land encroachment, several injured

GUWAHATI

A gang attacked the Assam Forest Department office in Chirang district on Friday, April 17, 2026, increasing tension on the India-Bhutan border.

Protesting the detention of some locals for allegedly encroaching on forest land, the mob destroyed the Runikhata Forest Range office and residential premises, set fire to more than half a dozen government vehicles on its premises and took some weapons.
