Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed 4,398 days in office on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 and will surpass former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s record on Wednesday, June 10.

He said Mr Modi will have the privilege of serving the nation for the longest uninterrupted period as an elected Prime Minister of India. He noted that during his tenure, Mr. Modi had made public welfare the guiding principle of governance.

On Wednesday, June 10, members of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) were to gather in Delhi to celebrate the alliance’s 12th year in power.

Mr. Shah launched the Land Port Management System (LPMS – ‘VINIMAY’) on Tuesday, June 9.

Speaking about the program, the Minister said that since 2014, dry ports have gone beyond a security-focused approach and have been developed as the first line of defense for security, a tool to facilitate trade and a bridge for people-to-people connection. At the same time, dry ports have played an important role in the holistic development of the border areas, promoting legitimate trade and addressing challenges such as migration from border villages and districts. Easier movement of people across borders has strengthened mutual trust and increased cultural exchange between people of both countries. He said that in a country like India with large land borders, border management plays a very important role.

Smart Borders

Mr. Shah said that the Ministry of Home Affairs is working on a four-pronged strategy to secure India’s borders under the concept of Smart Borders. The Land Port Management System was designed taking into account the needs of all stakeholders, paying special attention to security. This system, along with the Smart Border initiative, will help create an impregnable and secure border management framework. He said that LPMS and the Smart Border initiative together will create a safer and more modern border management system. This will help curb illegal activities and ensure the establishment of a robust and secure framework, Mr. Shah added.

The minister said the system will provide an integrated digital platform for the management of cargo, passengers and vehicles. It will increase coordination between various institutions and make information exchange extremely seamless. Almost 90% of paperwork will be eliminated. Single Electronic Window and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) based door operating system will provide significant time savings. Truck wait times were expected to be reduced by approximately 40% to 60%, and door processing times were expected to be reduced by 22% to 35%. This will not only increase trade but also promote tourism and facilitate better coordination, dialogue and cultural exchange between citizens of both countries, Mr. Shah said.
