Monaco explosion LIVE: ‘Attack’ rocks holiday hotspot as ‘suspect on the run’ | World | News

An explosion went off in Monaco on Monday after a man left his backpack on the street. The horror explosion occurred at around 21:00 local time in the major holiday destination Rue Reverend-Pere-Louis-Frolla. Authorities said that 3 people were injured in the incident, 2 of them seriously. According to BFMTV, the suspect is “on the run.”

Commenting on the incident about X, Nice Mayor Eric Ciotti said in a translated message: “The attack that took place this evening is a tragedy that has struck Monaco. Thoughts for the victims, their families and the people of Monaco. Full support has been mobilized for the security forces and emergency services.” There is no confirmation yet from the authorities that the incident was an attack.

But Monaco’s head of government, Christophe Mirmand, told AFP: “This is probably an attack.” He added that police were collecting evidence. He also said: “As far as I know, this is the first time in history that such an action occurs in the principality.”
