Railways Conducts Fire Safety, Anti-Smoking Drive

Hyderabad: South Central Railway’s Secunderabad division said a fire safety and smoking ban campaign aimed at preventing transport of flammable materials and improving passenger safety in trains and railway premises will be run until February 8. In the work that started on January 9, inspections were carried out in 43 luggage and braked van wagons, 25 railway shipyards, washing lines, pit lines (bus maintenance facilities) and 17 train stations. According to the statement, two cases were registered against individuals for tobacco-related fire safety violations.

Authorities said special attention was paid to preventing unauthorized transportation of flammable and explosive materials, including gas cylinders and flammable cans. While we strictly enforce the ban on fire-based cooking and smoking, checks are also carried out to keep bus corridors, doorways and cellar passages open.

Festival madness: Thieves attacked 8 locked houses

Hyderabad: Thieves attacked eight houses in Kanaka Durga Colony in Chengicherla on Sankranti night, taking advantage of the tenants being away for the festival, Medipally police said. Preliminary investigation suggested that the accused arrived in cars and targeted locked houses. Citizens who saw the doors broken while returning home informed the police.

Gold weighing around 25 tolas, 6 kilograms of silver and 2.5 lakh cash were reported stolen. Security camera footage in the area showed three suspects, one with a mask and two with their faces uncovered. Investigators are looking into whether the men are repeat offenders and whether the burglaries are linked to previous cases in nearby areas. Fingerprints taken from the scene are being analyzed for possible matches.

Police said night patrols have already been tightened during Sankranti, when many residents travel to their hometowns for a week. They assured locals that every effort was being made to trace and capture the accused. Further investigation is ongoing.

Alcoholic fight resulted in death

Hyderabad: A late-night fight between two half-siblings at VST Colony in Nacharam turned deadly when one of them allegedly pushed the other from the terrace of the residential building. The incident occurred on Thursday night while the duo was drinking alcohol on the third floor terrace.

According to Nacharam police, the accused, Leonard Angelo Sayers (28), allegedly got into a heated argument with his half-brother, Stafford Rohan Sayer (30). Leonard reportedly drunkenly pushed Stafford off the terrace, causing him to fall and suffer serious injuries.

While the injured person was taken to the hospital, doctors determined that he was dead. Based on a complaint by Michelle Rosario, mother of the deceased, the police registered a case under BNS Section 103(1).

Authorities collected scientific evidence at the scene. Leonard, who worked as a food and beverage manager, was taken into custody in the early hours of Friday, and his mobile phone was also seized as part of the investigation. The person, who was later referred to the courthouse, was arrested and sent to prison. Police said further investigations were ongoing.
