More Cases Registered For Defaming Complainant In MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil Rape Case

Kasaragod: The cyber police here on Monday registered a case against a Facebook user for allegedly defaming the woman who had filed a sexual assault complaint, which led to the punishment of MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil, officials said.

The case was filed against the account owner using the name ‘Jayaraj Bare’.

Police said that on November 29, the accused reposted a photograph of the complainant, which he had uploaded on Congress leader Sandeep G Warrier’s page last year, in an attempt to defame him.

The FIR was lodged following a tip-off from the Cyber ​​Operations Wing, which monitors social media posts targeting the complainant.

The case was registered under Section 72 (disclosure of victim’s identity) and 79 (insulting the chastity of a woman) of the Kerala Police Act.

The identity of the account holder has been verified and his arrest will be registered soon, officials said.

Meanwhile, a similar case was registered in Idukki district on Monday against another person who allegedly insulted the victim on social media. Police added that additional accounts are also being monitored.
