More chocolate bars added to nationwide recall over possible contamination

(NEXSTAR) — Additional chocolate bars have been added to an expanded recall initiated due to possible salmonella contamination.
Some Spring & Mulberry chocolate bars were recalled in January due to possible contamination. A day later, the recall was expanded to include additional products.
The US Food and Drug Administration on Friday shared It said Spring & Mulberry expanded its voluntary recall after a “comprehensive root cause investigation” found “a single date ingredient used in the production of the company’s chocolate was the most likely source of contamination.”

Salmonella infections are often associated with diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps, according to the CDC. Symptoms may begin six hours to six days after ingesting the bacteria. Most people can recover without treatment within four to seven days.
Diseases may be more severe in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. The CDC explains that some may require medical treatment or hospitalization. Infections can only be diagnosed through laboratory testing of a person’s stool, body tissue, or fluids.
