More rain likely in Andhra Pradesh as fresh system brews in the Bay

The new low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring more rain in Andhra Pradesh by October 29 and a yellow alert has been issued for several coastal and Rayalaseema regions.

Amaravati, an upper-air cyclonic circulation extending to mid-tropospheric levels, is located over the southeastern Bay of Bengal and the southern Andaman Sea, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Under its influence, a low pressure area is expected to form over the southeastern and east central parts of the Bay of Bengal on October 24 (Friday). It will likely move west-northwestward and become more pronounced over the next 24 hours.

As a result, the state will experience heavy to very heavy rains for the next seven days.

While a yellow alert has been issued for Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh districts on October 24, 25 and 26, there is an orange alert for Krishna, Guntur, Bapatla, Prakasam, Nellore, Tirupati, Annamayya and Kadapa districts on October 27 and 28. There is a yellow alert again on October 29.

Meanwhile, Wednesday’s prominent low pressure area moved west-northwestwards and weakened into a low pressure area over north interior Tamil Nadu and south interior Karnataka at 5.30 am on Thursday morning. It then moved west-northwestwards and lay over southern interiors of Karnataka and northern Kerala at 11.30 am. According to an IMD bulletin issued at 5 pm, it was likely to continue moving in a west-northwest direction over northern Kerala in the next 24 hours and emerge over the east-central and adjoining south-eastern Arabian Sea in the next 24 hours.

Very heavy rains on Thursday. BR Ambedkar concentrated in Konaseema and West Godavari districts.

Between 8.30 in the morning and 18.00 in the evening, Dr. Katrenikona in BR Ambedkar Konaseema received the highest rainfall of 120 mm, followed by Ravulapalem in the same district with 92.25 mm. Narsapuram in West Godavari district received 85.5 mm. Nellore, Chittoor, Prakasam, Kakinada, Krishna districts also received around 50-70 mm of rainfall. In the Krishna region, schools were closed due to rain warnings. Moderate rainfall of around 30-40 mm fell in Rayalaseema regions.

Home Minister V. Anitha held a teleconference with the District Collectors in view of a fresh low pressure likely to form over the Bay of Bengal. He asked AP State Disaster Management Authority officials to keep District Collectors updated on weather inputs. He asked the authorities to take all precautions to prevent damage.
