Morgan Rogers: Chelsea agree £117m deal for Aston Villa midfielder

Chelsea They have agreed a club-record £117 million deal to sign England midfielder Morgan Rogers. Aston Villa.
The 23-year-old football player will sign a 6-year contract with the option of another year at Stamford Bridge.
Rogers will undergo a medical on Monday after returning from international duty with England at the 2026 World Cup.
The deal would set a new transfer record for an English player, eclipsing the £116 million Manchester City agreed with Nottingham Forest for Elliot Anderson earlier this summer for another Three Lions midfielder.
Rogers became the most expensive signing in Chelsea history, surpassing the £107 million spent on Argentinian midfielder Enzo Fernandez in 2023.
The move comes as Chelsea’s new manager, Xabi Alonso, shapes his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
Rogers, who was previously on the books of Manchester City, joined Villa from Middlesbrough in February 2024 in a deal worth £8m worth £15m.
The Championship club will stand to make at least £20.4m from his transfer to Chelsea, depending on how many additions are triggered at Villa Park, due to the clause giving Middlesbrough 20% of the profits Villa make from selling Rogers in the future.
Boro believe it is also the biggest transfer sales fee record in England.
Rogers scored 21 goals in 85 league appearances for Unai Emery and was part of the team that won the Europa League last season.
He made 21 senior appearances for England, scoring one goal, and featured in six matches at the World Cup this summer.
Rogers becomes the second Villa midfielder to leave this week, following the £35m move of Youri Tielemans to Manchester United, but they have also brought in Johan Manzambi from Switzerland in a deal worth over £50m from Freiburg and signed Joao Gomes from Wolves for £38m.
