Nationals gloat over net zero victory before meeting Liberals in Coalition partyroom
Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen on Saturday accused the Coalition of ignoring scientists’ warnings about global warming and claimed the National Party “makes the final call” on Coalition policy.
The Liberals and Nationals will hold a joint meeting in the Coalition party room on Sunday. The meeting was called to finalize the opposition’s climate change and energy policies ahead of the final sitting days of parliament in the last week of November.
“Our two parties have come to a position where they accept what the National Party has done… I hope tomorrow the Liberal Party and the National Party will come to a consensus,” Littleproud said.
The National Party split from the Liberals less than three weeks after the Coalition’s stunning defeat in May, citing major policy differences. The coalition regrouped after 48 hours of separation.
Ley has had a testy relationship with the National Party since winning the rural NSW seat of Farrer vacated by former Nationals MP and deputy prime minister Tim Fischer at the 2001 election.

Littleproud emphasized this point on Saturday.
“We must have an immigration policy that works for Australia and that is what the National Party will gain,” he said.
Ley tackled the challenges of immigration in his speech to the annual John Howard Conference on Thursday.
