Morrison-era policy slogging students with millions in extra debt

Australian university students are paying $368 million more to take undergraduate courses in 2024 than they would have if the Morrison government had not introduced a new pricing system, a parliamentary roundtable heard on Monday.

The system, known as Job Ready Graduates, saw universities earn $813 million less from fees in the same year, despite students spending thousands of dollars more to study.

With the new pricing coming into force, there was a 3.5% decrease in the number of university students.
