Morrisons store with Post Office to shut in UK town on August 8 | UK | News

A Morrisons store with a Post Office in a UK town has confirmed it is closing. The supermarket chain will close permanently on Saturday, August 8, following a wider review.
Morrisons Daily on Phelps Parade in Calne, Wiltshire, was among the stores scheduled to close this year. It has been confirmed that it will close completely in August, including the closure of the Post Office branch within the supermarket. A spokesman for Morrisons previously said the closure came after the review identified stores whose performance had “challenged and been loss-making for a number of years”. They added that staff affected by the closures “will not be at risk of redundancy and consultations will begin shortly”.
As reported by Wiltshire TimesThe Morrisons Daily store opened in February 2024 following refurbishment to the unit. The Post Office is currently advertising vacancies and welcomes interest from retailers.
The closure of the post office means Calne residents will be directed to the James Avenue Post Office in Spar, about a mile away. There is also Quemerford Post Office approximately 2 miles from the Morrisons branch.
The Post Office apologized for any inconvenience caused by the closure. They will provide another update once more information becomes available about the future plans of a branch in Calne.
In a statement, a Post Office spokesperson said: “Our retail partner Morrisons Daily has reviewed its store operations and decided to close its stores in Calne. As a result, the Post Office branch at this location will close on 8 August.
“We are fully aware of the inconvenience this will cause to our customers, and particularly to small businesses who rely on our banking and parcel services.
“We have now announced our vacancy in the branch on our website. runapostoffice.co.uk website. “We welcome applications from nearby retailers who would like to host a Post Office in their store.”
