Moscow was plunged into darkness as Ukraine struck the Russian capital in a devastating attack, affecting more than 600,000 people. According to Ukrainian reports, drone attacks destroyed residences and skyscrapers, plunging a large part of Russia’s capital into complete darkness.

Volodymyr Zelensky’s former press secretary, Iuliia Mendel, also posted online, adding: “Total power outage in the Moscow region is being reported on social media: more than 600,000 people plunged into darkness for more than four hours; no electricity, no mobile signal, complete lockdown.”
He added: ‘A drone threat has now been declared across the region.’
Although Ukraine did not officially claim responsibility for the attack, Ukrainian drones were reportedly heading towards the Russian capital a few minutes ago.
Other reports suggest that a fire at a local electrical substation could also cause the outage, but this could still be the result of a drone strike.
Metro He also reported that the Russian military managed to shoot down more than 100 UAVs in the four days before the attack, with some heading towards Moscow; this was confirmed by Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
It is thought that Moscow Airport had to suspend flights due to drones entering Russian airspace.
