Moscow under fire as ‘at least 3 killed’ in massive drone attack – refinery hit | World | News

Local authorities claimed there was a major drone attack on Moscow early Sunday. Pictures circulating on social media show explosions in several parts of the Russian capital and surrounding areas, including at an oil refinery.
Russian authorities claimed that at least three people were killed and 12 more people were injured in the Moscow region in the drone attack. Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov claimed that two men were killed in the village of Pogorelki and a woman was killed in Khimki, north of Moscow.
He also claimed that many high-rise buildings and infrastructure facilities were damaged in the attack.
All four Moscow airports have seen their operations disrupted multiple times since late Saturday due to the drone launch.
Other areas reported to have been attacked include Zelenograd and Putilkovo, where a drone allegedly crashed into a multi-storey building without causing injuries, and explosions were heard in central Moscow.
Speaking about the drone attack on Moscow’s oil refinery, the city’s mayor, Sergey Sobyanin, claimed that the “technology” of the facility was not affected. However, workers’ shifts were affected, he said.
The attack on the Moscow region appeared to be part of a larger attack; The Russian Ministry of Defense said more than 550 unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down across the country.
While Russian officials blamed Ukraine for the attack, the war-torn country did not claim responsibility for the action.
The drone attack comes after Russia imposed new restrictions on reporting following drone strikes and threatened fines for people who published footage without official permission.
